Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our products include launch vehicles, propulsion systems, missile products, subsystems and defense electronics, precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition, satellites and space components and services, and advanced aerospace structures.
Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems is currently seeking an NDT Engineer to join our team in Rocket Center, WV, just outside of Cumberland, MD. The Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) site in Rocket Center designs, develops and manufactures tactical rocket motors, medium caliber ammunition, composite components and end items, and fuze and electronics equipment. For decades, the dedicated and highly skilled team at ABL has supported national security efforts by developing and building defense systems for DoD customers and U.S. allies.
•Designs, develops, and implements non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and equipment, ensuring customer requirements are met
•Provides guidance and recommendations regarding design concepts, specification requirements and cost estimates for NDT processes
•Supports NDT operations by developing, documenting and/or approving techniques and procedures that assure product conformance and contract compliance
•Compiles data and defines changes required in NDT equipment, procedures, and/or manufacturing processes
•Provides written and oral presentations to management and customers regarding NDT results
•Applies lean manufacturing principles / strategies to new and current NDT processes
•Provides technical support to supervisors, technicians and program IPTs
•Provides technical support for both internal and external audits as well as suppliers and sub-contractors
•Occasionally performs NDT on production hardware
BS in Engineering or a STEM degree.
2 years of experience
Ability to obtain Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a prerequisite
Mechanical related background or skills
Technical and practical experience in Aerospace component NDT preferred
Ability to become NDT certified in accordance with NAS 410
Excellent oral and written communication, data analysis and problem solving skills
Proficient with MS office; knowledge of Minitab and FMEAs preferred
Ability to document, plan and manage projects
This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
