Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems is currently seeking a Metal Fab Technician (Metal Fab Operator 4) to join our team in Rocket Center, WV, just outside of Cumberland, MD. The Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) site in Rocket Center designs, develops and manufactures tactical rocket motors, medium caliber ammunition, composite components and end items, and fuze and electronics equipment. For decades, the dedicated and highly skilled team at ABL have supported national security efforts by developing and building defense systems for DoD customers and U.S. allies.
Develop Manufacturing Process and Documentation ensuring production hardware and test articles meet engineering and configuration requirements
Provide analysis and data to support review boards and investigations
Instruct machine operators on technique and operation of manufacturing equipment
Observe manufacturing process, establishing reasonable expectation of daily throughput
Prepare tooling sheets, create CNC code and assist operations in machine setup and debug
Prepare process drawings
Participate in tooling design, fact-finding, and failure investigations
Monitor manufacturing process through review of SPC data
High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years of experience as a Tool Maker / Journeyman Machinist
Experience using CAD/CAM software, ACAD, MASTERCAM, Solid Works or NX
Knowledge and experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques
Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
U.S. Citizenship; must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance
10 years of experience as Tool Maker / Journeyman Machinist
Experience with GTAW, Electron Beam Welding and Laser Welding
Experience with Flow Forming and Spin Forming equipment
Experience with cutting tool selection, fixture design and metal and/ or composite material processing
Experience with operation and programming of robotic part loaders
Capable of writing and editing CNC programs for both turning and machining centers
Capable of CNC machine setup and optimization of process
This role will interface with internal and external customers, so excellent interpersonal skills are needed
Comfortable making presentations in front of peers and senior leadership
Working knowledge of GD&T as defined by ANSI/ASME Y14.5M-1994
Understanding and working knowledge of Lean manufacturing
Must be willing to work occasional off-shift hours when needed

This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
