Job Description

Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a full-time, 36 hour per week, Nurse Practitioner to work in Urgent Care.

  • Emergency services experience required.

  • 3-4 years of experience in Emergency Services highly preferred

    Candidates interviewed for this role will be asked to present proof of required degrees, certificates and/or certifications at the time of the interview.  Candidates unwilling or unable to provide said documentation will not be considered.

    Incumbents should expect to three 12 hour shifts a week, with rotating shift schedule.  

Nurse Practitioner-Emergency Department Core Privileges include the ability to:

  • Screen patients to determine the need for medical attention.

  • Review a patient’s records to determine health status.

  • Take a patient history and record pertinent patient data.

  • Initiate requests for commonly performed initial laboratory studies.

  • Identify normal and abnormal findings in history, physical examination and commonly performed laboratory studies.

  • Initiate appropriate evaluation and emergency management for emergency situations, for example, cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, injuries, burns and hemorrhage.

  • Provide counseling and instruction regarding common patient problems.

  • Independently prepare patient plan of care, including treatment and release.

  • Treatment of minor lacerations without involvement of nerves, vessels or tendons of material size. Excludes facial laceration suturing.

  • Immobilization of simple, undisplaced fractures or sprains with splints.

  • Evaluation and treatment of minor burns (<2% total body surface area).

  • Point of Care Testing: KOH preps, Urine dipstick, Urine sediment microscopy, Vaginal wet mount microscopy.

  • Acute adult and pediatric care.

  • Minor surgical procedures (incision & drainage, removal of foreign bodies, etc.) with consultation of physician.

  • Evaluation and treatment of foreign body in eye. Physician consult required for removal.

  • Evaluation and treatment of abdominal pain.

  • Prescriptive Authority, in accordance with the WV Board of Nursing, including ordering the administration of I.V. drugs and fluids.

  • Control of external hemorrhage.

  • Carry out aseptic and isolation techniques.

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required
• Licensed in the state of West Virginia
