Division Communications Manager

ATK s Missile Products Group has an exciting and newly created Division Communications Manager role. The position encompasses internal and external strategic and tactical communication initiatives for two critical Business Lanes located in Maryland and West Virginia. The position will be based near Cumberland, MD.

Position Scope The ATK Communications Manager performs day-to-day, hands-on management and execution of public relations, media relations and marketing communications activities supporting the priorities of the Defense Components and Propulsion & Controls business divisions, as well as the internal communications and community relations activities of site locations within these two business lanes.

Reporting The Communications Manager reports directly to the ABL Human Resources Director and will develop and execute coordinated communications campaigns, strategies and tactics to achieve strategic business goals. The Communications Manager works closely with the leadership team, program leads and business development directors of both divisions to drive communications initiatives aimed at achieving target objectives and business goals. The individual also works closely with site executives to provide internal communications and community relations support aimed at fostering a workplace culture of success. The Communications Manager also reports functionally (dotted line) to the ATK Missile Products Communications Director, to ensure that the division's communications plans, strategies and tactics are coordinated and align with the vision, mission, priorities and goals of group and corporate.

Requirements This position requires a well-rounded communications generalist with proven results in successfully applying effective communications solutions to support business requirements. The Communications Manager is expected to plan, manage and execute in fast-paced and complex environments involving multiple organizations, deadlines, conflicting priorities and simultaneous projects. A fundamental understanding and ability to apply communications principles, theory, planning processes and execution tactics is desired. Being able to exert positive, tactful influence when dealing with stakeholders is an enabler of success. Travel may be required approximately 20% of the time.

Roles and Responsibilities.

A key focus of this position is to raise the visibility and brand awareness of both divisions' programs/capabilities with customers, the industry and the media. This is accomplished through proactive planning and execution of strategic external communications campaigns encompassing public relations, media relations, advertising, marketing communications and community outreach, as well as coordinating division messaging, graphics, brand alignment and marketing collateral for domestic and international tradeshows.

The position is also responsible for the development and execution of internal communications programs to effectively communicate the company/group/division strategic vision, mission and values to employees. The communications manager ensures message consistency in communications materials, including division policies, executive presentations, VP/GM and leader messages, external website, and internal articles published on the various company intranet sites.

Key responsibilities include:
- Research, plan, execute and measure communications activities encompassing public relations, media relations, internal communications, marketing communications, advertising, community relations and crisis communications.
- Write, edit and coordinate approvals for news releases, talking points, product data sheets, visual media, stories, announcements and presentations.
- Develop messaging, collateral and events for internal communications programs.
- Coordinate responses to media inquiries. Support media interviews and visits. Act as spokesperson when designated.
- Coordinate content development and placement on internal and external websites. Support planning, message development, public release of materials and brand alignment for trade shows.
- Support crisis communications planning and response.
- Foster and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including company and industry business and communications partners, news media editors and reporters, bloggers, community and civic officials, and service organizations

Education: and Experience.
- Bachelors or equivalent degree in Communications, PR, Journalism or related field.
- Minimum 8 years current and direct related experience in managing and executing external and internal communications programs.
- Outstanding writing, oral communications and project management skills.
- Working knowledge of Associated Press style.
- Demonstrated expertise writing for web and print.
- Practical experience using a variety of communications vehicles and practices.
- Inclusive, team player with proven ability to collaborate.
- Proven ability to successfully execute.
- Ability to obtain Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite
